"Sven Elch Adventskalender-app"- Illu

At the weekend I did a little illustration for my friends Steffi and Timo, who recently presented their first app of their selfpublishing project illustrie. The app is a story (in form of an  Advent calender) about the elk (or a reindeer) Sven Elch,  who works in the office of  "Santa und Söhne"  and has the task to get the Christmas tree. Of course this is not as easy as it sounds. ;)
I didn't have to much time so I just drew when I was not working on my current project.

Here is the sketch:

The speechbubble says "Harpsolo", which of course is wrong because it's a lyre. A harp would be really hard to hold with one hand. ;)

Sketches from the past weeks

metro people studies:
And some sketches from a lifedrawing session in the"Gängeviertel". It was basically as cold in the room as it was outside, so the model stayed dressed.

Girl with a portfolio

Last week I was helping out a teacher with the university's qualifying examination. I should sit in the room and calm the people down, explain the exercise and so on. The funny thing was that I was kind of excited myself. Later when they were occupied drawing their pictures I calmed down and the rest of the time it was okay.

Yesterday I finished my piece for the upcoming Rotopol Press Group Exhibition in November (25.11.2011 — 11.02.2012).After I sent it to the guys at Rotopol Press I was in a weird mood, as I always am after finishing an illustration. So I drew this girl to take my mind of.
(I will make a post to this illustration when the exhibition opens.)

And here is the poster for the exhibition.

Fashionsketch 3

I'm attending a fashion illustration class at my university, which is quite good, because we learn about creativity techniques and we have to try out and draw with traditional drawing tools. I did a lot of illustrations completely digital, which sometimes took longer than I wanted it to and I kind of thought that I unlearned to not paint with an Undo-button...;)
In this class I'am not allowed to draw digital, so I was forced to draw with ink and watercolors etc. And surprisingly I liked ink! I did a lot of drawings which I'm not showing here because they're really crappy tests but anyway...
So I tried out ink and it makes the process of drawing so much quicker.

Privacy

This is just a preview, because there are naked people in the full picture and some people seem to be offended by that. (And then make google mark those artblogs as "dangerous"...)

If you want to see the whole piece, click here.

Behind the Wall

A "A Song of Ice and Fire" - Fanart...
I watched the series and started to read the books but then I had so much to do that I forgot to finish reading the second book. That happened with a lot of books in the past.
But I will finish them, when I have the time because they're really really good!

Drawing fellow students and trying to be optimistic

The past days I was pretty annoyed and sad because of university matters and I think I might have annoyed some people with my pessimism. So a big "Sorry" goes to Marina, Matthias, Jakob and of course Steven, who has to listen to my whining every evening.

But I drew some fellow students:

Belletristik

Slightly bigger Version

In August I did these two pieces for the German Literature Magazine "Belletristik". I had to illustrate two poems, which were really odd, but that actually allowed me to be really free with the idea for the drawings.

The Belletristik is usually printed in black and a color, which is different in every issue. This time it had to be a yellowish orange. Therefore I had to work with seperate layers for the two colors, which I normally don't do.
The two poems didn't belong together so I was able to try two different approaches. The first illustration has a lot of shades of yellow in it and some pencil-lines whereas the coat is the only yellow part in the second illustration which is completely digital.

The Hunger Games: Another illustration

I found this thumbnailsketch in my sketchbook and decided to do a proper illustration for this scene.

Study of an armor

Sometimes I do those studies to see how I can draw certain things in this relatively flat style. Especially metallic things are still hard to do for me. So I did this study of the Kingslayer from a photo from HBO's Game of Thrones. I was not going for likeness, but rather tried out different possibilities to describe shining armor. First I used textured brushes on the front plate, which looks kinda good, but is also a bit too realistic for me.
So I used a differnt approach on the helm... which I like better.

The Hunger Games: Finished illustration Nr.3

I'm not sure if I post the fourth illustration, so this is the last one for now:

The scene with the Tracker Jacker nest:

Sketch:

I wanted to post some text passages from the book to the illustrations, but I always forget the book at home.

The Hunger Games: Finished illustration Nr.2

This is the scene when finally Katniss finds a watersource during the games.

I'm having trouble withe the color of the human skin underwater and I'm not satisfied with it here. :/ It's too...grayish

I did a lot of sketches...even more than this sheet of paper, because I couldn't get it right for a long time.

The Hunger Games: Finished illustration Nr.1

Last Semeser I did 4 illustrations of the First book of the triology "The Hunger Games". I mostly drew Katniss for some weird reason... I tried to draw things that i have trouble with like scenes in the dark and underwater, but this first one is just the scene when Katniss and Prim harvest all those dandelions (i know the don't look like dandelions but i wanted to give them a kind of futuristic look.) It was really weird to draw them so skinny, because they hadn't eaten in a long time. Oh and I think I drew both of them a bit too old.

I guess I will never do the technique again, which i used here, but it was interesting to play around with it.

Some portraits from the International Skizzenfestival Stralsund

During the 10 days I tried to do some watercolorportraits of fellow artists. I rarely used watercolor before, but i think they turned out quite nice.

The problem with drawing artist at the Skizzenfestival: They are all looking down when they draw too.

Poster: 70th anniversary of the Fashioncampus Armgartstraße

After those old illustrations from last semester...here is a new illustration!

Our teachers gave us an assignment to draw a poster for the fashion design department of our university. The Fashion campus exists now for 70 years and there will be a big fashion show on the street in front of the school. The last days I had practically no time, but I wanted to draw this poster so badly, that I just did it during the course of one day.
And it's always so much fun to draw girls with fashionable clothes. ;)

The posters will be on display during our annual exhibition from July 14th till July 16th 2011.

Here are the sketches, which are really messy, but I didn't have to show anyone and some color variations.

Steven made me change the green zombiehands to a more suitable color and I'm so glad he did, because I really like the result.

Old illustrations

I did these illustrations for my magazine class last semester, where we got together in groups, picked a magazine and illustrated some old articles. I was part of the "Greepeace-Magazin" group and decided to illustrate an article about the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, especially the effect on the children, whose parents were murdered or who became murderers themselves.
It was important to reintegrate the children into some kind of family or group again and prevent the victims from seeking revenge, so that it would not result in a new genocide.

I'm not sooo satisfied with the results, but here they are:

FAS - Portrait Noam Chomsky

My third illustration for the FAS-class, which wasn't printed. My professor told me that they had to choose between my illustration and another one, but in they end they took the other one. Unfortunately.
We had to do a portrait of Noam Chomsky.
I'll upload the second illustration in a few days.

Guy doodle

I'm so busy with assignments from my classes right now that I have no time for my own little drawings. But today I did a sketch of a fellow student in my art history class, because he has that funny hair.

FAS-Practise-Illustration

We're doing some illustration for the german newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" in my illustration class this semester, but this first text has already been published, so it was just for practise.
I did 3 Versions and I'm not quite sure which one I like best. Maybe the first one? The text ( for those who can't speak german) is about a child of divorce and the influence of the mother on the relationship of her child to its father. (Woo, weird sentence.)
We hadn't had a format guideline, so the illustrations are all in different sizes.

Subway sketches and other portraits

I try to scribble more in the subway on my way to university.
The other portraits were done in one of my classes in situations, when I only had to listen to the teachers without doing anything else...so i sketched my fellow students.
